Overview
As a Social Chair of Tufts Chess club, I collaborated with my team to create a website to centralize rankings, match results, and event information for the Tufts Chess Club.
The website replaced scattered communications with a real-time, accessible platform, improving transparency, boosting engagement, and increasing club visibility within the Tufts community.

Problem
Members Felt Disconnected
While communicating with the members of the Chess club, our team realized that the club lacked an accessible, centralized platform for members to keep track of club rankings, recent match results, and events.

Information was fragmented through our current platforms through emails, or instant notices during meetings, and Instagram which led to confusion and low visibility, especially among newcomers. Critically, some members of the club didn’t used Instagram, which was our main platform.
How might we design a website where club members feel connected and informed?
Process
Content Structuring
As a Social Chair, I defined key site goals of allowing the club members to feel connected and informed through the site through key features of: leader board, resources, events and an Eboard page.

Takeaways
This project taught me the importance of blending technical feasibility with member-focused design—maximizing impact with modest resources. This project reinforced that inclusivity is not just visual — it’s structural. Building trust with marginalized users means reflecting their realities in both content and interaction design.
Going forward, I would deepen early co-design with target communities to ensure the platform evolves directly from their input. If I were to expand this, I'd include clickable player profiles, historical stats, interactive filters, and integrate event scheduling to make the platform even more dynamic and engaging.
